What is inside

Five layers, from the side that touches your skin down to the side that touches your underwear. What each one is, and why we asked for it.

01

Top sheet

Polypropylene nonwoven, air through bonded

The only layer that touches you. Air through bonding lofts the fibres so flow passes straight through instead of sitting on the surface. We chose it over a perforated film because it feels like cloth. Nothing is added to it: no fragrance, no lotion, no dye.

02

Acquisition layer

Polypropylene and polyethylene nonwoven

Catches flow as it arrives and spreads it along the pad instead of letting it pool in one spot. This is the layer that decides whether a pad still feels dry a minute later. We put one in every variant, including Girls.

03

Absorbent core

TCF bleached wood fluff pulp with sodium polyacrylate

The pulp takes flow in fast. The sodium polyacrylate turns it to gel and holds it under pressure, so it does not come back up when you sit down. TCF means the pulp is bleached without chlorine or any chlorine compound. That was our specification, and the core is undyed.

04

Leak guards

Sealed side edges, slightly raised

Not elasticated cuffs. Both long edges are sealed and sit a little higher than the centre of the pad, so flow runs along the length instead of off the side. The rise is small enough that you will not feel it. On all four variants.

05

Back sheet

Microporous breathable polyethylene film

Stops anything passing through to your clothes, while the pores let warm air and vapour out. A pad that seals completely stays hot, so we specified a breathable film across the whole range.

And the rest of the pack

Wings
Nonwoven flaps with repositionable adhesive, on all four variants including Girls. They hold the pad square so it does not travel.
Adhesive
Pressure sensitive hot melt, food grade standard. On the underside only, never against skin.
Release paper
Silicone coated kraft paper. The strip you peel off.
Wrapper
Each pad individually wrapped.

What is not inside

Each one was a decision.

No added fragrance

Nothing added to make it smell of anything. Fragrance means more chemicals against skin all day.

No anion or negative ion strip

The coloured strip some pads carry in the centre. We looked into it and could not find evidence that satisfied us, so we left it out.

No chlorine bleaching

Our pulp is TCF, bleached without chlorine or any chlorine compound. Written into our specification.

No dyes in the core

Left the colour it naturally is.

No formaldehyde treatments

No formaldehyde based finishes on any layer.

No titanium dioxide

Not used as a whitener anywhere in the pad.

No latex

No natural rubber latex anywhere in the pad.

How we chose it

We went and looked

We met manufacturers in person at the fairs in Wuhan, Shanghai, Nanjing and Geneva, and walked the floors of several factories, before we chose one.

We specified it, line by line

TCF pulp, an acquisition layer in every variant, a breathable back sheet, no anion strip. Those were decisions, not defaults.

We registered it properly

Every variant has its own NAFDAC number, printed on the pack and repeated here so you can check it.

How to use it

Built for the days you would rather not think about it.

  1. 1

Wash your hands before and after.

  2. 2

Peel the paper strip off the back of the pad.

  3. 3

Press the pad into your underwear, sitting it slightly further back for more cover behind.

  4. 4

Peel the wing strips and fold the wings underneath.

  5. 5

Change it every three to four hours on a heavy day, sooner if you need to.

  6. 6

Keep a spare and a pack of wipes in your bag.

When you are done

  • Roll the used pad from front to back.
  • Wrap it in the wrapper from your next pad, or in tissue.
  • Put it in a waste bin. Never flush a pad.
  • Wash your hands.

Good to know

  • Do not wear a single pad for longer than eight hours.
  • Store in a cool, dry place, out of reach of young children.
